Who are we:
Getting accurate information on repair parts, without original specifications is part of this challenge. Even when you have a “golden part”, how do you know it can be additively manufactured to work?
New advances in additive manufacturing have potential for DoD’s need to maintain readiness with parts that meet or exceed original part specifications. Implementing an additive manufacturing process for the DoD requires integrating the capabilities of multiple domains, from the "real" and "digital" worlds. For example, creating 3D geometry of legacy parts, developing a materials database, strategies for printing parts, and quality control of those parts in a cyber-secure database are just some of the hurdles overcome in this workflow.
